The library enriched with books on Latvian culture, history and diplomacy
In 2021 marking the centenary of Latvia’s state recognition de jure, the National Library of Latvia donated to Vytautas Magnus University a collection of books representing Latvian history, art, literature, ethnic and contemporary culture. The books are published in English, so their content will be available to a wide range of readers.
Elina Čudere, Chief Adviser of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Lithuania, during her visit in Kaunas presented the gifts, and acknowledgments of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Indulis Bērziņš to the University for long-term cooperation. She also brought a book to the library from the embassy – an anthology published in English on the occasion of the centenary of Latvian diplomacy “A Centenary of Latvian Diplomacy. The First Hundred Years of Latvia’s Diplomacy and its Foreign Service as Reflected in Essays by Diplomats”. The authors of the book articles are Latvian diplomats, who created Latvia and nurtured its relations with the world since the declaration of the state in 1918 November 18th until now. The book is intended for all readers, and especially those interested in international relations, political science and law, it will open a nearly 360-degree perspective on hitherto unknown and interesting pages from the everyday life of diplomats, their insights on international relations.
