Exhibition “Long Journey Home” by photographer Juozas Kazlauskas

We invite you to participate in the opening of the exhibition “Long journey home” by photographer Juozas Kazlauskas in the library of the Agriculture Academy of Vytautas Magnus University (Studentų str. 11 – 235, Akademija, Kaunas district) on14th of March at 2:00 PM.

The exhibition “A Long Journey Home” by photographer Juozas Kazlauskas consists of photographs from expeditions to places of exile in Siberia in 1989. The aim of these expeditions was to transfer the remains of loved ones who had died in exile to their homeland. The photographs show the cemetery on Tit Ari Island (Yakutia), one of the largest surviving cemeteries of exiles in the Arctic. It is located on the banks of the Lena, about 500 metres from the river. “For Juozas Kazlauskas, photographing things that were silent during the Soviet era and therefore seemingly did not exist was not just a simple act of documentation, but an act of “digging up” or even creating a memory” – Agnė Narušytė.

VDU CRIS researcher profile synchronization with ORCID

University researchers have an international unique researcher identifier ORCID, which serves as a personal reference of the researcher, a profile on the Internet, connecting the researcher’s scientific activity and its results and creating links with the institutions that collect and use ORCID: publishers, databases, repositories and other science-related organizations. VDU became a member of the ORCID organization in 2023, and the University Research Management System (VDU CRIS) became dissemination channel for ORCID. It possible to create links between the VDU CRIS researcher’s profile and the ORCID researcher’s profile, so that researchers do not have to manually fill in and update the same information about themselves, scientific publications and other scientific activities, already filled in VDU CRIS. Instructions on how to do this are provided on the library’s website – main menu Mokslas -> Mokymai, pagalbos->VDU CRIS profilio informacijos eksportas į ORCID. For information export, login data to ORCID is required. The library staff will be happy to help if you visit the library.

The integration of two open science infrastructures, the possibility of exporting researchers’ profiles to the international science infrastructure, which leads to greater international visibility of the University’s researchers and easier identification, collection and dissemination of the results of the scientific activities of VMU researchers, was implemented and financed by the European Union funds and Economic Recovery and Resilience for 2021-2027 increase with the funds of the “New Generation Lithuania” measure and the funds of the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania. The project “Strengthening the international competitiveness of VMU in the Transform4Europe alliance network of European universities” (No. 10-005-P-0005).

Artificial intelligence (AI) created text recognition

In the text matching program Oxsico, used at the university, a text created by artificial intelligence (AI), recognition system has been developed and it is currently able to recognize AI text created in Lithuanian, English, Spanish, Italian, German, and French languages. University lectures will already find an additional AI indicator in their Oxsico account next to the checked texts, showing the percentage and indicating the probability that the text was created by AI. From February another function will be enabled – the authorship detection function – which will make it possible to find inconsistencies between the author’s writing style and the work being checked. This feature is based on stylometric analysis. Read more about the functionality of the Oxsico AI recognition system here. We also recommend  familiarize yourself with the Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence for Teaching and Research Purposes
